Electricity relief exists. Here is who qualifies.

Claim / question under review

What relief applies to electricity bills between 1 August and 31 December 2026?

What the evidence says

Grenlec’s 4 August 2026 release explains three temporary government measures: a $50 bill credit for eligible domestic accounts using 1–200 kWh in a billing period; 0% VAT on the non-fuel consumption component; and removal of the 6% customs service charge on diesel imported for electricity generation during the stated period. Renewable-energy customer accounts do not qualify for the $50 subsidy.

VAT on other services and fees remains. A bill spanning the start date is apportioned, and the fuel benefit phases in as eligible fuel enters use.

Existing relief is documented. That does not by itself refute a proposal for additional relief or establish that an opposition statement is false. The original statement and proposed scope would have to be compared.

The cover is supplied campaign artwork. Its broader VAT assertions are not all verified by this article.
